Hospital e-procurement soars

Published on .

Toronto-E-procurement by U.S. hospitals surged by more than $1.6 billion last quarter, led mainly by increased use of Internet buying systems by small hospitals, according to a survey from Millenium Research. Overall, hospital b-to-b buying via e-procurement systems and e-marketplaces is estimated at $6.3 billion for 2000. October survey results showed 3.5% of hospital procurement had moved online, up from 2.6% the previous quarter. By 2003, small hospitals are expected to move 53% of their b-to-b purchases online, compared with just 36% for large hospitals.
