HP to acquire Mercury Interactive

Published on .

Palo Alto, Calif.—Hewlett-Packard Co. announced Tuesday that it has signed a definitive agreement to acquire Mercury Interactive Corp., an IT management software company, in a deal valued at about $4.5 billion.

The deal brings together HP's OpenView systems, network and IT service management software and Mercury's application management, application delivery, IT governance and service-oriented architecture governance expertise.

The merger is expected to increase the size of HP's software business to more than $2 billion in annual revenue.

When the deal closes, which is expected in the fourth quarter, Mercury will become part of the HP Software business, and both companies' sales forces will begin reference-selling each others' products, HP said.
