Palo Alto, Calif.—Hewlett-Packard Co. has hired Michael Mendenhall, a 17-year Walt Disney Co. marketing veteran, as senior VP-CMO, effective Oct. 1.

Mendenhall was most recently in charge of all marketing and publicity activity for Walt Disney Parks and Resorts, a $10 billion business in North America, Europe and Asia.

He will be responsible for leading HP’s global marketing operations, including brand marketing, customer intelligence and corporate communications.

Mendenhall succeeds Cathy Lyons, previously exec VP-CMO at HP, who returned to HP’s imaging and printing group in June to lead strategic change management.

Since Lyons’ departure from the role, the duties of CMO had been handled by Shane Robison, HP’s exec VP-chief strategy and technology officer. Mendenhall will report to Robison.
