IAB reports online advertising rose 21% in 2003

New York--Online advertising reached $7.3 billion in 2003, up 21% over 2002, according to the Internet Ad Revenue Report released by the Interactive Advertising Bureau and PricewaterhouseCoopers.

The growth was led by keyword search, which made up 35% of online ad revenue last year, compared with 15% in 2002.

Classified ads made up 17% of online ad revenue in 2003, compared with 15% in 2002. Rich media grew to 8% of total online ad revenue last year, up from 5% the previous year.

Banner advertising was down slightly in 2003, making up 21% of total online ad revenue compared with 29% in 2002.
