Armonk, N.Y. -- IBM Corp. announced Wednesday that it has agreed to acquire Whistle Communications, a Foster City, Calif.-based company that provides ``thin server'' technology that allows small companies to gain Internet access and e-mail capabilities through a single Internet connection. With the acquisition, IBM hopes to improve its ability to serve smaller companies. "The small-business segment is growing more quickly than any other segment of the information technology industry," Peter Rowley, IBM's general manager of global small business, said in a statement.
