IBM completes $1 billion buy of Informix database business

Armonk, N.Y.--IBM Corp. has completed its $1 billion acquisition of Menlo Park, Calif.-based Informix Corp.'s database software business. The deal, announced April 24, gives IBM a more formidable database arsenal to compete against rival software developer Oracle Corp. In addition to Informix's database software assets, IBM took on 2,500 employees. IBM also gained key Informix database clients, including Verizon Corp. and Deutsche Telekom AG.
