IBM to expand 'big data' capabilities with Vivisimo acquisition

Armonk, N.Y.—IBM Corp. announced plans to acquire Vivisimo, which develops discovery and navigation software to help organizations access and analyze “big data.” Financial terms were undisclosed. Vivisimo is a privately held company based in Pittsburgh. IBM said the acquisition will help expand its big data capabilities, offered through IBM Software Group, helping organizations automate the flow of data into business analytics applications, better understand customer behavior and perform data-driven marketing campaigns.
