IBM eyes new market

New York--IBM Corp. introduced a new computer chip aimed at the burgeoning market for "information appliances," a term for devices other than a PC that can access the Web. The new chip, called the PowerPC IAP, represents IBM's first foray into the market. IBM is targeting consumer electronics manufacturers that want to add Internet capabilities to their products.
