IBM launches Mobile Foundation services unit

Armonk, N.Y.—IBM Corp. has created a business unit devoted to mobile computing, aggregating the company's offerings such as cloud services, app development and mobile security under one umbrella. IBM's new Mobile Foundation will offer mobile cloud services via the company's WebSphere Cast Iron service; a management and security suite offered through IBM's Endpoint Manager; and consultant services to assists companies with their mobile strategy and deployment. The new Mobile Foundation also offers mobile app development tools through technology gained via the company's January acquisition of Worklight, a vendor of cross-platform mobile application development tools for Apple iOS, Google Android and RIM's BlackBerry.
