Armonk, N.Y.--IBM Corp. and Livingston, N.J.-based Pinpoint Solutions L.L.C. will jointly develop and market e-business intelligence software for the insurance industry. The companies' software is meant to aid insurers' marketing, sales and pricing optimization efforts. IBM's Global Insurance Industry unit has in recent years emerged as a dominant player in the space. Insurers have spent aggressively to build Internet-based insurance marketing initiatives but has been thwarted each step of the way by agents, who fear being cut out.
