Framingham, Mass.—Worldwide revenue from mobile applications will grow from $4.9 billion this year to more than $35.0 billion in 2014, according to a new report from IDC.

The report, “Worldwide and U.S. Mobile Applications, Storefronts and Developer 2010-2014 Forecasts and Year-end 2010 Vendor Market Shares,” predicts the number of apps downloaded on mobile devices worldwide will grow from 10.9 billion this year to 76.9 billion in 2014.

“Mobile app developers will 'appify' just about every interaction you can think of in your physical and digital worlds,” said Scott Ellison, VP-mobile and wireless research at IDC, in a release.
