IDS: Tech marketing budgets to be up 3% in first half of 2005

Framingham, Mass.—Tech marketing budgets will increase by an estimated 3% in the first half of 2005, according to a new report from IDC.

Last year, tech marketing budgets were up an estimated 2.1% in the first half, and up 5.8% for the full year.

Global IT spending overall is expected to be up 6% in 2005, IDC projects.

The report, issued by IDC’s CMO Advisory research service, was based on interviews with 66 senior marketing executives at hardware, software and services companies.

The survey found that 45% of marketers plan to keep their budgets flat or increase budgets by up to 5% in the first half; 25% of marketers plan to increase their marketing investment by between 5% and 15%; 20% will increase their spending by more than 15%; and 10% will decrease their marketing budgets in the first half of the year.
