IHS purchases semantic search company Invention Machine

Published on .

Englewood, Colo.—Information and analysis company IHS Inc. has further strengthened its position in technology search with its $40 million purchase of Invention Machine. Boston-based Invention Machine's question-and-answer software aimed at engineers analyzes relationships between words to enhance search results. It will augment technology IHS acquired last month in its purchase of technology-oriented vertical search company GlobalSpec. “Invention Machine provides a software tool that lays on top of IHS and GlobalSpec content, as well as a customer's own internal and external content, to enable customers to rapidly digest information and make better decisions,” said Scott Key, IHS president-COO.
