Direct marketing job prospects improve

›› Hiring in the direct marketing industry shows steady improvement, but marketers continue to proceed with caution, according to Bernhart Associates Executive Search's latest quarterly employment survey. Of the 132 companies responding to the survey, 71% said they plan to add staff in the third quarter, compared with 60% in last year's third quarter. New hires will outpace replacements by two to one. Most hiring is expected in account management, sales and analytics positions. When asked if they plan to reduce staff, 8% said there would be cutbacks this summer compared with 11% in the same period in 2003. Year to year, the survey showed hiring is up by about 10% over last summer.

Alpine Access wins Office Depot account

›› Office Depot, the $12 billion office supply giant, signed a one-year agreement with Alpine Access for call center support for its b-to-b clients. Alpine delivers support calls through the Internet to its home-based agents.
