Industrial companies boost marketing spending

Troy, N.Y.—Companies in the industrial sector are spending more on marketing and allocating a greater portion of their budget to online marketing, according to GlobalSpec’s 2007 Industrial Marketing Trends Survey published Wednesday.

The vertical search engine said 61% of respondents indicated online marketing would command a bigger portion of the marketing budget this year, and 37% will spend at least a third of their marketing budget online.

However, social and emerging media have yet to take off with the sector. Fewer than 10% of respondents said they expected to increase spending on blogs and podcasts this year.

The survey was conducted online in February with 312 respondents.
