'Industry Standard' parent names new CEO

Published on .

San Francisco--The parent of The Industry Standard named Richard Marino, COO of online rival CNET Networks Inc., as its new chief executive. Standard Media International has taken it on the chin this year because of the slowdown in ad spending. The company has announced two rounds of layoffs and also shut down Grok magazine as a stand-alone publication. Marino succeeds founding CEO John Battelle, who will remain as chairman. Prior to joining CNET, Marino spent nine years at International Data Group's PC World, most recently as president-CEO. IDG also publishes The Industry Standard.
