Informa takes a pass on Springer Science bid

Published on .

London—Informa, a publishing and conferences group, said Friday that it had rejected a $5.2 billion offer from Germany’s Springer Science & Business Media, saying the price significantly undervalued the company.

Informa is one of the largest conference companies in the world, producing 10,000 events annually for the academic, scientific, professional and commercial business communities.

Springer Science, formed from the merger of Kluwer Academic and Bertelsmann Springer, publishes approximately 1,450 journals specializing in science, technology and medicine. Springer, which is owned by private equity firms Cinven and Candover, made the bid on Oct. 19.
