The deal, announced Monday, strengthens infoUSA's list business and e-mail marketing capabilities.
The Chicago-based e-mail list management and brokerage portion of Yesmail's business will be merged with WalterKarl, infoUSA's list management and brokerage division. The move specifically gives the company more firepower in the e-mail list arena.
"That part fits in with what we bought from DoubleClick," said Vin Gupta, chairman-CEO of infoUSA Inc. The company bought DoubleClick's list services division in March 2002.
The other part of the Yesmail deal that is attractive to infoUSA is Yesmail's e-mail marketing division, Gupta said.
The Yesmail deal follows infoUSA's acquisition of ClickAction Inc., another e-mail marketing company, in December.
Yesmail's e-mail operations will continue to operate in San Francisco and ClickAction remains in Palo Alto, Calif., but the operations eventually will be combined, Gupta said. "At one point, we will merge them," he said. "Right now, they are two separate companies until we figure out all the issues."
