infoUSA lays off 170 employees

Published on .

Omaha, Neb.--Database marketer infoUSA has laid off about 170 people in the U.S., 120 of whom were based in the company's Omaha headquarters.

The news follows Chairman-CEO Vin Gupta's comments about reducing costs, made in the company's first-quarter earnings report.

"Starting immediately, we will be trimming advertising and sales personnel expenses by approximately $1.2 million per month and expect that our EBITDA margins will return closer to historical levels of 28%," he said in the report.

Net income was down 36% to $4.4 million in the first quarter of 2004 compared with the same period last year.
