Intel announces Centrino mobile technology brand

Santa Clara, Calif.--Intel Corp. announced Centrino as the new brand name for its wireless computing technology, which will be available in the first half of the year. The move is the first by Intel to brand a group of technologies under one name. Wireless technologies falling under the Centrino brand include a microprocessor formerly code-named Banias, chipsets and wireless networking products. The technologies are based on a new mobile processor architecture for notebook computers.
