Santa Clara, Calif.—Intel Corp. announced the Intel Core2 Duo processor brand, a new energy-efficient processor for desktop and laptop computers.
Formerly code-named Conroe and Merom for desktop and notebook PCs, respectively, the Intel Core2 processors are based on the Intel Core microarchitecture and will include two processing cores per chip.
Intel also announced the Intel Core2 Extreme processor, a high-performance chip for gamers.
The processors will be built on Intel’s 65-nanometer design and manufacturing process technology, which shrinks a processor’s circuitry and transistors.
The new processors will be available in the third quarter.
