Producer comment: "They can see more potential customers than their entire sales force can see in a year," said Ron Mathews, event director.
Exhibitor comment: "Because we're an independent importer, it makes all the difference to us," said Takuma Ogihara, a sales representative who showcased sakes for Jizaki Inc. in the show's inaugural Japanese Demonstration Theater. "This kind of exposure lets us, as an importer, get our name out there."
Breakdown: The show floor sold out for the first time in five years and brought together 150 to 200 new products in a demonstration area. The Japanese External Trade Organization also organized a pavilion dedicated to Japanese products, the first stop in its educational initiative. "New York is an international hub, and that was one of the best places to start," said Jessica Parton, a JETRO representative who coordinated participation in the pavilion.
