Interpublic to form tech PR powerhouse

Published on .

New York--The Interpublic Group of Cos. Inc. said Tuesday that it plans to create two worldwide public relations groups from its Golin/Harris International, Shandwick International and Weber Public Relations Worldwide brands. On Jan. 1, Interpublic will combine the technology practices of Weber and Shandwick to create Weber Shandwick Worldwide, which it says will be the largest technology PR firm in the world. The move is critical for Interpublic because both firms have strong technology clienteles. Use of network technologies to create a single efficient entity could both reduce costs and increase its clout in the lucrative high-tech industry. Meanwhile, Golin/Harris will expand its global practice through control of 14 remaining Weber offices in the U.S., Europe and Asia.
