Investment house rolls up cattle sites

Published on .

Sebastain, Fla.-based eMerge Interactive Inc. said Tuesday that it has acquired a pair of companies in its bid to develop an Internet marketplace for the cattle industry. eMerge said it will acquire for undisclosed sums livestock-marketer Eastern Livestock Co., Louisville, Ky., and outfit Jordan Cattle Auction, a San Saba, Texas-based cattle health certification company. In total, eMerge will pay $27.8 million in cash and $14.5 million in stock. The company said the two services organizations will give it a leg up in its bid to dominate Internet b-to-b activity in the $40 billion U.S. beef production industry.
