Denver-J.D. Edwards, which sells software to help run businesses' financial and manufacturing operations, signed a deal Tuesday with Netfish Technologies Inc. to provide eXtensible Markup Language (XML) capabilities to its customers. The deal is significant because J.D. Edwards has a large number of small- and medium-sized supply companies under pressure to join Internet trading exchanges. Netfish's XML code will allow those customers to provide data to trading exchanges in a standard format that will be compatible with others trading on the Net. Netfish, Santa Clara, Calif., has already provided XML software to such companies as Cisco Systems Inc., Sun Microsystems Inc. and NTT Communications Corp.
