Jupiter says corporations are doing Web backward

Published on .

New York--Jupiter Media Metrix Inc. said Wednesday that U.S. companies overestimate the advantages of maintaining their own Web servers. Those that do miss out on $6 million to $12 million in cost savings that could have been gained by 2003 if Web applications were delegated to an Internet service provider, the research company said. Also, Jupiter said 80% of corporations still develop applications before creating a Web hosting strategy or an appropriate Internet infrastructure. That creates the risk of having to rebuild an application once an Internet hosting strategy is put in place.
