Kantar reports ad spending up 6.5% last year

New York—Total ad spending in the U.S. reached $131.1 billion last year, up 6.5% over year-earlier ad spending, according to Kantar Media.

During the fourth quarter, ad spending was up 7.0% compared with the year-earlier period, Kantar said.

Media categories with the strongest growth last year were spot TV (up 24.2%), national spot radio (up 18.6%), Spanish-language TV (up 10.7%) and Internet display ads (up 9.9%).

Categories with the largest ad-spending decreases were local newspapers (down 4.6%), national syndicated TV (down 2.8%) and b-to-b magazines (down 1.2%).
