Kindle sales continue to increase

Published on .

Seattle—Amazon.com said Monday that sales of its Kindle e-reader continue to accelerate. “We’ve reached a tipping point with the new price of Kindle—the growth rate of Kindle-device unit sales has tripled since we lowered the price from $259 to $189,” Jeff Bezos, CEO of Amazon.com, said in a statement.

Additionally, Bezos said, Amazon.com now sells more e-books formatted for Kindle than hardcover books.

According to the company, over the past month, it has sold 180 Kindle books for every 100 hardcover books Amazon.com. The company sold more than three times as many Kindle books in the first half of this year as it did in the same period in 2009.
