Klein has been with Crain for nearly 30 years and is currently group publisher over Advertising Age and BtoB. In his new role he will take on additional oversight for Crain's New York Business, InvestmentNews and Modern Healthcare. Chris Battaglia, currently publisher of Pensions & Investments and group publisher of Business Insurance, will report to Klein.
As part of the realignment, KC Crain, who is group publisher of the automotive group, will add oversight of Crain's Chicago Business to his group duties and report to Rance Crain for that publication.
“There’s no easy way to replace someone like Gloria,” Rance Crain said. “She was a linchpin of the company for many years. But we’re confident this new structure will bring us great success going forward.”
"David has earned the trust and respect of our entire organization," he added. "We are working very hard to break down barriers throughout our company, and David will be integral to the process, as he works seamlessly between our publishers and our corporate staff.”
In addition to his expanded group publishing duties, Klein will work closely on strategic corporate initiatives with KC Crain and Chris Crain, exec VP-director of strategic operations.
Klein joined Crain Communications in 1984 at the company's then-new TV industry magazine Electronic Media and served as editor of that book until 1994, when he left to become editor first of Interactive Age, an early trade covering the Internet, and then editor of Information Week, for CMP Publications (now United Business Media).
He returned to Crain in 1996 as editor of Advertising Age and over the next few years rose to become group publisher over all Crain media and marketing publications. He is based in Chicago.
