Los Angeles—Agility is the most important attribute senior executives consider when promoting marketing executives, according to a new study by executive recruitment firm Korn Ferry International.
The study was based on an online survey of more than 125 global senior executives in October.
When asked, “What is the most important attribute that you consider when promoting senior marketing executives,” the top response was the ability to leverage their experience to succeed in new situations (learning agility), cited by 61% of executives.
The second most important attribute was leadership and cross-functional skills (34%), followed by years of relevant/functional experience (4%) and education (1%).
Korn Ferry also asked senior executives how they currently identify high-potential senior marketing talent in their organizations. The top response was looking to employees with strong results and leadership capabilities (67%); followed by comprehensive assessment methodologies that include testing on scenario planning and solving problems in unique ways (19%); employees with strong results in sales and operations (8%); and current job openings (6%).
