McLean, Va.—Gannett Co. has named Larry Kramer, the founder of MarketWatch, the president-publisher of USA Today. The appointment is effective immediately.
In the role, Kramer will oversee USA Today, USA Today Sports Media Group, the Travel Media Group, Reviewed.com and USA Weekend. Currently serving as chairman of the Advisory Board to the Newhouse School of Communications at Syracuse University, he is expected to push the digital transformation of the USA Today brands.
“He will play a critical role as we transform the company and execute on our strategic plan to position Gannett for success in the digital age,” Gracia Martore, Gannett's president-CEO, said in a statement.
In addition to founding MarketWatch and then selling it to Dow Jones & Co. in 2005, Kramer was president of CBS Digital Media from 2005 to 2007. During his tenure, he created March Madness on Demand.
Kramer succeeds David Hunke, who was named chairman of the newspaper in April and will retire in September.
