Legato turns on Internet sales tool

Legato Systems Inc., Palo Alto, Calif., a provider of software and professional services for storing corporate data, said Monday that it has deployed a b-to-b Internet portal for use by its 1,000 sales representatives. The system, built by OnDemand Inc., Menlo Park, Calif., provides marketing materials for Legato's products, competitive research, online messaging and available promotions. In addition to use by in-house sales representatives, Legato, Palo Alto, Calif., is also making the system available to its channel of resellers. Legato will switch over from an internally maintained extranet, which wasn't judged as effective as OnDemand, said John Bowne, Legato director of field marketing operations. OnDemand provides similar software to 3Com Corp. and Addtron Technology Inc.
