I wasn't at DMA, but if your report is accurate, Seth Godin told DMA attendees, "Each and every one of you is a spammer" ("Beyond the Biz," Nov. 14, page 41).

Unless he personally and carefully reviewed the e-mail marketing efforts of every DMA attendee, his statement is both false and ignorant.

Legitimate direct marketers are generating millions of dollars in sales with legitimate e-mail marketing campaigns.

If these e-mail messages did not deliver relevant, valuable information and offers, the recipients would not order the products—nor would they continue to open and read the messages.
