Light bulb goes on at Philips: dealer extranet

Published on .

Somerset, N.J.--K2 Design, New York, announced Tuesday that the lighting division of Royal Philips Electronics, Netherlands, has hired it to launch a dealer extranet. The private Internet site will allow Philips Lighting and its distributors to access information about light bulbs and fixtures in production, and data on demand at the retail level. Financial details of the contract were not disclosed. K2 did say the site is expected to launch later this month. The announcement is significant because it demonstrates the type of complex data that large manufacturers might make widely available to business customers, and underscores K2's drive to expand from a developer of marketing sites into robust business-to-business designs. Philips is the No. 1 manufacturer of lighting products globally.
