Emeryville, Calif.—Lithium Technologies, a builder of social communities, blogs and forums for corporate customers, has acquired startup social media monitoring company Scout Labs for between $20 million and $25 million in stock and cash.

Scout Lab was founded in 2007 and is based in San Francisco. Lithium, with about 150 employees, has raised about $44 million in venture capital, and to date has focused on corporate social channels. The acquisition of Scout Labs gives it visibility into social media conversations on general sites such as Twitter and Facebook.
