Local radio revenue up 5.4% in 2010

Chantilly, Va.—Local radio station revenue totaled $14.1 billion last year, up 5.4% from 2009, according to BIA/Kelsey, which advises companies in local media.

BIA/Kelsey's “Investing in Radio Market Report” anticipates radio industry revenue will climb 3.7% this year and 4.5% in 2012, in part due to election year advertising.

“The higher-than-expected radio revenues in 2010 reflected the return of national advertisers to the airwaves and some political battles that made an impact in certain markets,” Mark Fratrik, VP of BIA/Kelsey, said in a statement.

BIA/Kelsey projected that radio industry online revenue this year will increase 22% to $494 million, from $405 million last year.
