Chicago--Telecommunications equipment maker Lucent Technologies Inc. warned on Friday its business was much worse than analysts had expected and that it would have to cut more jobs. Lucent said it would post a 45-cent-a-share loss during the quarter, nearly triple what analysts had been expecting. The company said it would cut its work force to about 45,000 positions by the end of the year. It employed 106,000 in January 2001, when it launched its restructuring.
