Lycos to launch Web start-up venture

Lycos Inc., Waltham, Mass., is to launch LycosLabs, an incubator unit that will invest in and foster b-to-b and business-to-consumer Internet start-ups. LycosLabs will fund between six and 12 companies over the next year; it will provide start-ups with marketing advice and office space, in addition to financing. Jeff Crown, VP-general manager of LycosLabs, said in a published report that it may invest "hundreds of millions." Exact financial details were undisclosed.
