M&A deals in media and marketing boom in January

New York—Merger and acquisition activity in the marketing, media and digital arena surged in the first month of this year, according to a report issued by investment bank Petsky Prunier.

The number of deals jumped to 196, a 180% increase over the year-earlier period. In the same time frame, the aggregate deal value increased to $8.5 billion, a leap of 160%.

Strategic buyers drove the majority of M&A activity in January, accounting for 108 deals, or 55% of the total.
