Magazine ad pages, revenue up in August

New York—Magazine rate card-reported advertising revenue for August totaled $1.6 billion, up 9.6% from a year earlier, according to Publishers Information Bureau.

After several months in the doldrums, ad pages increased, too, rising 4.4% from August 2005.

Nine out of the 12 major advertising categories showed increases in PIB revenues and ad pages.

Top advertising gainers included retail (up 36.1% in revenue and 18.2 in pages), drugs and remedies (up 29.4% in revenue, 18.7% in pages), food and food products (up 17.6% in revenue, 16.7% in pages) and public transportation, hotels and resorts (up 6.8% in revenue, 12.6% in pages).

For the year to date, total ad revenue was up 3.9% to $14.4 billion; ad pages were down 0.3%.
