December ad revenue increased 3.1% to $1.69 billion. Seven of the 12 major advertising categories had increases in revenue in December; technology was up 8.2%, media and advertising rose 23.3%, and direct response was up 4.0%.
For the year, nine categories had revenue gains. Those that posted declines were: direct response, financial/insurance/real estate, and public transportation/hotels/resorts.
