Magazine Publishers of America officially changes name to MPA

Published on .

New York—Ahead of its annual American Magazine Conference, to be held in Chicago Oct. 3–5, the Magazine Publishers of America today announced that it is changing its name. The organization will now be known as MPA—the Association of Magazine Media.

The group said the dropping of the word “publishers” and the tweaking of the name reflected the reality that magazines no longer reach readers only print.

“Magazine media companies are rapidly embracing cross-platform business models that incorporate print, digital and other ways of providing content to consumers,” Jack Griffin, incoming MPA chairman and CEO of Time Inc., said in a statement. “MPA’s new identity expresses our strong belief that, together, all of these forms collectively express what it means to be a magazine media company.”
