The move comes less than two weeks after Marchesano announced he was resigning at the end of the month as chief transformation officer at Nielsen Co.
Marchesano, who starts the job at Jordan, Edmiston Aug. 1, will focus on the business information services sector, including database products that in the last few years have become an increasingly vital component of b-to-b media.
“The business information sector is the next chapter for a lot of b-to-b media end-users,” Marchesano said. “I’ve watched [Jordan, Edmiston founder and CEO] Wilma [Jordan] build a great media platform, and I’m proud to be associated with the team she has put together.”
Marchesano added: “In the last 30 years I’ve developed a lot of relationships and want to build on them as they relate to the business information sector.”
Before he was promoted in June 2006 to chief transformation officer at Nielsen, Marchesano had a four-year stint as president-CEO of VNU Business Media (now Nielsen Business Media), where he oversaw 42 b-to-b titles, including Billboard and The Hollywood Reporter; more than 235 trade shows and conferences; and 185 digital products and services.
“When David Calhoun was named CEO of [then-VNU] last August his point of view was more integration,” Marchesano said. “Clearly, integration for Nielsen is in the global business services area, and that’s not an area where I want to focus on for my career.”
Prior to joining then-VNU in 1999 as president of Bill Communications, Marchesano was president-CEO of BPA International.
