The recent reorganization of UBM Tech placed Marco Pardi at the helm of the group's full portfolio of events. His charges include the Game Developers Conference, Black Hat and Enterprise Connect—three events that saw strong growth in 2012 and offset general softness in the North American events portfolio while helping secure more than 9% growth for the region, according to parent company UBM's year-end report to investors. “Events have been growing rapidly and are the largest contribution model of any of our products within UBM Tech,” Pardi said. “There is an increasing focus on community, on providing value to attendees, on how to drive return on investment to exhibitors and sponsors, and how to be a sustainable business that contributes to the overall growth of the markets our events serve.” UBM Tech boasts the largest digital footprint of any of the UBM groups, Pardi said, placing it at the forefront of a companywide strategy to link digital communities with face-to-face events. “We have great brands and communities, and we've pulled down the silos and connected those together with live events and created a holistic approach,” he said. “UBM as a whole is watching what we're doing here in the tech space.” Over the next year, the company will focus on creating more connected events and digital communities. Interop will be aligned with InformationWeek and networkcomputing.com, while BlackHat will be paired with Dark Reading.
