McGraw-Hill to buy Appleton & Lange

London--The McGraw-Hill Cos. has agreed to acquire medical publisher Appleton & Lange from British media group Pearson Plc for $46 million. Pearson also agreed to sell Master Data Center, which provides payment services for the owners of intellectual property, to Information Holdings for $33 million. Pearson bought the businesses as part of its $4.7 billion acquisition last year of the bulk of U.S. educational publisher Simon & Schuster from Viacom.
