Media company screams into wireless

Screaming Media Inc., New York, said Friday that it has hired former Lucent Technologies director of wireless technologies Steven Spencer to head up its move to distribution of content and advertising to wireless devices. The New York-based company said Spencer would be senior VP of Screaming Wireless, a new unit that will specialize in wireless advertising sales. ScreamingMedia said it has signed deals with OracleMobile, OmniSky, Mobile ID, ClickServices.com, Mobilocity and Newsfire Network to deliver news and content through their wireless portals. Research firm Strategy Analytics predicts $200 billion in Internet transactions will be conducted without telephone lines by 2003.
