MediaPlex cuts 28 percent of its staff

New York--In another sign pointing to the struggles of online advertising, MediaPlex Inc. said it is laying off 28% of its staff in order to reduce expenses. The San Francisco-based company, which provides technology services to the marketing industry, expects the layoffs to cut costs by about $10 million during 2001. MediaPlex has a bevy of b-to-b clients, including Hewlett-Packard Co., Sun Microsystems Inc., Compaq Computer Corp. and Xerox.
