Mercado in the money, plans partnership

Published on .

Search engine company Mercado Software Inc., Palo Alto, Calif., said Tuesday that it has obtained $30 million in financing, which will be used to expand sales and marketing activities. The move comes as Mercado faces increased competition from such companies as Vality Technologies Inc., Boston, which recently introduced a search engine that's tailor made for trading exchanges. Mercado is preparing to release the latest version of its search engine software, and plans to announce later this month a partnership with e-commerce software developer Intelisys Electronic Commerce Inc., New York. Analysts expect search engine software sales to increase as b-to-b suppliers look for ways to make their products more accessible on the Internet.
