MetalSpectrum starts handling transactions

Atlanta-E-marketplace MetalSpectrum Inc. officially opened for business Tuesday, transacting orders for aluminum, stainless steel, brass and copper from a catalog featuring some 40,000 products. The site also features request for quote and negotiation modules, including auctions where factors other than price are important. Through December, the site is waiving transaction fees charged to sellers. The site is a so-called "coalition" market, owned by some of the largest metals companies in the world. And as it has grown, so have its ambitions. It started with an eye toward handling specialty metals but now views itself as a broad metals supply chain and procurement site. MetalSpectrum also gained attention when it picked its CEO, Alan Turfe, who helped form the Covisint e-marketplace.
