For this year's special report, BtoB is publishing a list of the Top 50 Agencies and Top 20 Interactive Agencies. To select the agencies that appear in this report, BtoB contacted agencies from its database of companies that have previously appeared on the list and those that have expressed interest in the report. BtoB also promoted the report in print and online. Submissions were sought beginning in December, with a deadline of Jan. 31. The Top 50 Agencies list features three categories: Small agencies (revenue up to $10.9 million); midsize agencies (revenue between $11 million and $99 million); and large agencies (revenue of $100 million and up). Due to the Sarbannes-Oxley Act, which limits the disclosure of financial information, many agencies were unable to provide revenue information. They were asked to self-categorize their entries. The finalists in each category were selected based on outstanding work in 2004, percentage of business that is b-to-b, client wins and demonstrated growth of business. To be included on the list, agencies had to provide full-service marketing communications services, with an emphasis on advertising. Winners of last year's awards were precluded from winning a category this year, but could be named as a runner-up or receive honorable mention.
